Datos: Asner et al 2014, MINAM\/PNCB, SERNANP, IBC<\/div><\/div>\n<p>Los bosques tropicales,\u00a0especialmente en la Amazon\u00eda,\u00a0secuestran\u00a0enormes cantidades de <strong>carbono<\/strong>, uno de los principales gases de efecto invernadero que conlleva al cambio clim\u00e1tico.<\/p>\n<p>En este reporte, mostramos la importancia de las\u00a0<strong>\u00e1reas naturales protegidas<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>y <strong>tierras ind\u00edgenas<\/strong> para resguardar estos\u00a0stocks de carbono.<\/p>\n<p>En el <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.maapprogram.org\/2018\/peru-carbono\/\">MAAP #81<\/a><\/strong>, estimamos la p\u00e9rdida de<strong>\u00a059 millones<\/strong>\u00a0de toneladas m\u00e9tricas de <strong>carbono<\/strong> en la Amazon\u00eda peruana durante los \u00faltimos cinco a\u00f1os (2013-17), debido a la p\u00e9rdida forestal (sobre todo deforestaci\u00f3n por actividades mineras y agropecuarias).<\/p>\n<p>Este valor significa que la\u00a0deforestaci\u00f3n representa casi la mitad<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>(<strong>47%<\/strong>) de las emisiones de carbono anuales del Per\u00fa, incluyendo de combustibles f\u00f3siles.<sup>1,2<\/sup><\/p>\n<p>Al contrario, aqu\u00ed mostramos que las\u00a0\u00e1reas naturales protegidas\u00a0y las tierras ind\u00edgenas han resguardado <strong>3,17 mil millones<\/strong> de toneladas m\u00e9tricas de carbono, hasta el 2017.<sup>3,4<\/sup><\/p>\n<p>El <strong>Mapa Base<\/strong>\u00a0(a la derecha) muestra, en tonos de verde, las densidades de carbono en relaci\u00f3n a dichas \u00e1reas.<\/p>\n<p>De ese total:<br \/>\n<strong>1,85 mil millones<\/strong>\u00a0est\u00e1n resguardadas en las <strong>\u00e1reas naturales protegidas<\/strong>,<br \/>\n<strong>1,15 mil millones<\/strong>\u00a0est\u00e1n resguardadas en las <strong>comunidades nativas tituladas<\/strong>, y<br \/>\n<strong>309,7 millones<\/strong>\u00a0est\u00e1n resguardadas en las\u00a0<strong>Reservas Ind\u00edgenas\/Territoriales<\/strong> para los pueblos en aislamiento voluntario.<\/p>\n<p>El total de carbono resguardado (3,17 mil millones de toneladas) es equivalente a 2.5 a\u00f1os de las emisiones de carbono de los <strong>Estados Unidos <\/strong>(88\u00a0a\u00f1os de\u00a0 las emisiones de Per\u00fa).<sup>5<\/sup><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>A continuaci\u00f3n<\/strong><\/em><em>,\u00a0<\/em>mostramos unos ejemplos de c\u00f3mo las \u00e1reas naturales protegidas y las tierras ind\u00edgenas est\u00e1n resguardando importantes reservorios de carbono, indicados por los <strong>cuadros A-E<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fitem-sep\"><\/div>\n<h3><strong>A. Parque Nacional Yaguas <\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>La imagen\u00a0siguiente muestra c\u00f3mo tres \u00e1reas naturales protegidas, incluyendo el nuevo Parque Nacional Yaguas, est\u00e1n efectivamente resguardando 202 millones de toneladas m\u00e9tricas de carbono al noreste de la Amazon\u00eda peruana. PN Manu, RC Amarakaeri, CC Los Amigos<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>La imagen siguiente<b>\u00a0<\/b>muestra c\u00f3mo Los Amigos, la primera concesi\u00f3n de conservaci\u00f3n en el mundo, est\u00e1 efectivamente resguardando 15 millones de toneladas m\u00e9tricas de carbono en la Amazon\u00eda peruana sur. Dos \u00e1reas protegidas circundantes, el Parque Nacional Manu y la Reserva Comunal Amarakaeri, guardan un adicional de 194 millones de toneladas m\u00e9tricas. Primero, uniformizamos los datos de p\u00e9rdida de bosque del 2013-2016 con las alertas tempranas del a\u00f1o 2017, para evitar superposici\u00f3n y tener un solo dato 2013-2017.
