{"id":21133,"date":"2019-07-03T13:31:00","date_gmt":"2019-07-03T13:31:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.maapprogram.org\/choco-ecuatoriano\/"},"modified":"2024-09-19T16:18:28","modified_gmt":"2024-09-19T16:18:28","slug":"choco-ecuatoriano","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.maapprogram.org\/es\/choco-ecuatoriano\/","title":{"rendered":"MAAP #102: Conservando el Choc\u00f3 Ecuatoriano"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_8210\" class=\"thumbnail alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-8210 \" src=\"https:\/\/www.maapprogram.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/umbrella_-Stephen-Davies-Copy.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"486\" height=\"451\" \/><div class=\"caption\">Choc\u00f3 endemic, Long-wattled Umbrellabird. \u00a9Stephen Davies<\/div><\/div>\n<p>El <strong>Choc\u00f3 ecuatoriano, <\/strong>ubicado al lado oeste de los Andes (la Amazon\u00eda est\u00e1 en el lado este), es reconocido\u00a0mundialmente por su alto nivel de\u00a0<b>endemismo<\/b>\u00a0(especies que no habitan en ning\u00fan otro lugar en la tierra).<\/p>\n<p>Es parte del <strong>Hotspot de Biodiversidad<\/strong> \u00abTumbes-Choc\u00f3-Magdalena,\u00bb hogar de una gran cantidad de plantas, mam\u00edferos y aves end\u00e9micas (1,2), tales como el P\u00e1jaro Paraguas Longuip\u00e9ndulo (Long-wattled Umbrellabird).<\/p>\n<p>Tambi\u00e9n, es uno de los bosques tropicales <strong>m\u00e1s amenazados<\/strong> del mundo (1).<\/p>\n<p>En el presente reporte, realizamos un <strong>an\u00e1lisis de deforestaci\u00f3n<\/strong> en el norte del Choc\u00f3 ecuatoriano (ver <strong>Mapa Base, <\/strong>abajo) para tener un mejor entendimiento del escenario actual de conservaci\u00f3n. Datos: MAAP, MAE, Hansen\/UMD\/Google\/USGS\/NASA<\/div><\/div>\n<h3><strong>Resultados Claves<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Nuestros <strong>resultados claves <\/strong>incluyen:*<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>P\u00e9rdida del 61% <\/strong>de bosque (1.8 millones de hect\u00e1reas) en los tres rangos de elevaci\u00f3n.\n<ul>\n<li>P\u00e9rdida del<strong> 68% <\/strong>de bosque (1.2 millones de hect\u00e1reas) de<strong> elevaci\u00f3n baja<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>P\u00e9rdida del <strong>50%<\/strong> de bosque (611 mil ha) de <strong>elevaci\u00f3n media y alta<\/strong>.<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>20%<\/strong> de la p\u00e9rdida (365 mil ha) en los tres rangos ocurri\u00f3 desde el <strong>a\u00f1o 2000<\/strong>.\n<ul>\n<li>P\u00e9rdida de 4.6 mil hect\u00e1reas en el periodo m\u00e1s reciente del <strong>2017-18<\/strong> (mayormente en el bosque de elevaci\u00f3n baja).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Solo <strong>queda el 39% <\/strong>de bosque (1.17 millones de hect\u00e1reas) en los tres rangos de elevaci\u00f3n.\n<ul>\n<li>Solo queda el <strong>32% <\/strong>(569 mil ha) de bosque de elevaci\u00f3n baja.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Queda el<\/strong> <strong>99%<\/strong> de la Reserva Ecol\u00f3gica <strong>Cotacachi-Cayapas <\/strong>(declarada como Reserva en 1968).<\/li>\n<li>Queda el <strong>61%<\/strong> de la Reserva Ecol\u00f3gica <strong>Mache-Chindul <\/strong>(declarada como Reserva en 1996).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>*Los datos de p\u00e9rdida de bosque corresponden al \u00e1rea de estudio indicado en el Mapa Base. Las fuentes de los datos son el Ministerio del Ambiente \u2013 Ecuador (datos anteriores al 2017) y la Universidad de Maryland (datos del 2017-18) (Hansen 2013). Datos: Fundaci\u00f3n Jocotoco, MAE, Hansen\/UMD\/Google\/USGS\/NASA.<\/div><\/div>\n<h3><strong>Oportunidad de Conservaci\u00f3n<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Iniciativas de conservaci\u00f3n est\u00e1n en marcha para proteger un tramo cr\u00edtico de bosque del Choc\u00f3 de elevaci\u00f3n baja a media, al oeste de la Reserva Ecol\u00f3gica Cotacachi-Cayapas.<\/p>\n<p>Dichas iniciativas son una oportunidad \u00fanica de conseguir la conservaci\u00f3n de 22,000 hect\u00e1reas de bosque, ayudando as\u00ed a salvaguardar la conectividad entre las \u00e1reas de conservaci\u00f3n p\u00fablicas, privadas, e ind\u00edgenas. Al conectar estas \u00e1reas, se dar\u00e1 la \u00fanica oportunidad de proteger toda una gradiente altitudinal de 100 a 4900 metros, en la ladera oeste de los Andes tropicales.
