VIIRS\/NASA, MAAP.<\/div><\/div>\n<p>Presentamos un an\u00e1lisis actualizado sobre los <strong>incendios en la Amazon\u00eda<\/strong>, a partir de nuestro reporte <a href=\"https:\/\/www.maapprogram.org\/2019\/fuegos_2019\/\"><strong>MAAP #107<\/strong><\/a><strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Primero, mostramos un <strong>Mapa Base<\/strong> actualizado de los \u201c<strong>hotspots de fuego<\/strong>\u201d en la Amazon\u00eda, basado en alertas recientes (agosto 20-26). Los hotspots (mostrados en rojo, anaranjado y amarillo) indican las concentraciones m\u00e1s altas de fuego detectadas por los sat\u00e9lites de la NASA.<\/p>\n<p>Nuestros<strong> hallazgos principales <\/strong>son:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Los grandes fuegos <strong>NO<\/strong> parecen estar en la Amazon\u00eda brasile\u00f1a norte ni central, las cuales se caracterizan por ser bosques alto y h\u00famedo (estados de Rond\u00f4nia, Acre, Amazonas y Par\u00e1); sino <strong>SI<\/strong> en la Amazon\u00eda sur de Brasil y de Bolivia, zonas caracterizadas por los bosques secos y matorrales (estados de Mato Grosso y Santa Cruz, respectivamente).<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>De hecho, los fuegos m\u00e1s intensos se ubican al sur de la Amazon\u00eda, a lo largo de la frontera de Bolivia, Brasil, y Paraguay.<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>La mayor\u00eda de los incendios de la <strong>Amazon\u00eda brasile\u00f1a<\/strong> parecen estar asociados a la <strong>agricultura<\/strong>. El fuego, ubicado en el l\u00edmite entre las zonas agr\u00edcolas y el bosque, podr\u00eda expandirse por las plantaciones o escapar al bosque.<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>La mayor\u00eda de los incendios relacionados a la agricultura en Brasil destacan un<strong> punto cr\u00edtico<\/strong>: gran parte de la Amazon\u00eda oriental ha sido transformada a una agricultura masiva en las \u00faltimas d\u00e9cadas. Los <strong>incendios son un indicador rezagado de previa deforestaci\u00f3n masiva.<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Insistimos en <strong>advertir<\/strong> contra el uso de datos de detecci\u00f3n de fuego como medida \u00fanica de impacto en los bosques Amaz\u00f3nicos. Muchos de los fuegos detectados est\u00e1n en \u00e1reas agr\u00edcolas y no necesariamente representan incendios forestales.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>In conclusion<\/strong>, the classic image of wildfires scorching everything in their path are currently more accurate for the unique and biodiverse dry forests of the southern Amazon then the moist forests to the north. However, the numerous fires at the agriculture-moist forest boundary are both a threat and stark reminder of how much forest has been, and continues to be, lost by deforestation.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Next<\/strong><\/em>, we show a series of <strong>11 satellite images\u00a0<\/strong>that show what the fires look like in major hotspots and how they are impacting Amazonian forests. The location of each image corresponds to the letters (<strong>A-K<\/strong>) on the Base Map.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fitem-sep\"><\/div>\n<h3><strong>Zooms A, B: Chiquitano Dry Forest (Bolivia)<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Some of the most intense fires are concentrated in the<strong> dry Chiquitano<\/strong> of southern Bolivia. All fires we have seen in this area are in <strong>agricultural fields<\/strong> or at the <strong>agriculture-forest boundary<\/strong>.
