Las letras A-G corresponden a las im\u00e1genes con zoom (acercamiento), abajo.<\/div><\/div>\n<p>Presentamos una primera mirada a los principales <strong>hotspots <\/strong>de p\u00e9rdida de bosque primario del 2020<strong>, <\/strong>en la Amazon\u00eda (ver Mapa Base).*<\/p>\n<p>Destacamos varios<strong> titulares:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Estimamos m\u00e1s de <strong>2 millones de hect\u00e1reas <\/strong>de p\u00e9rdida de bosque primario del 2020, en los 9 pa\u00edses amaz\u00f3nicos.*<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Los pa\u00edses con la mayor p\u00e9rdida de bosque primario en el 2020 son <strong>1) Brasil, 2) Bolivia, 3) Per\u00fa, 4) Colombia<\/strong>, 5) Venezuela y 6) Ecuador.<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>La mayor\u00eda de los hotspots ocurrieron en la <strong>Amazon\u00eda brasile\u00f1a, <\/strong>donde la deforestaci\u00f3n masiva se expandi\u00f3 en casi toda la regi\u00f3n del sur. Muchas de estas \u00e1reas fueron deforestadas en la primera mitad del a\u00f1o y luego quemadas en julio y agosto. En septiembre, hubo una notable tendencia a incendios forestales (ver <a href=\"https:\/\/www.maapprogram.org\/2020\/fuegos_resumen\/\">MAAP#129<\/a>).<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Varios de los hotspots m\u00e1s intensos fueron en la <strong>Amazon\u00eda boliviana, <\/strong>donde los incendios ardieron en los bosques secos del Chiquitano, en la regi\u00f3n del sureste.<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Contin\u00faa habiendo un arco de deforestaci\u00f3n al noroeste de la <strong>Amazon\u00eda colombiana, <\/strong>impactando numerosas \u00e1reas protegidas.<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>En la <strong>Amazon\u00eda peruana, <\/strong>la deforestaci\u00f3n contin\u00faa impactando la regi\u00f3n central. En el lado positivo, la miner\u00eda aur\u00edfera ilegal que asol\u00f3\u00a0la regi\u00f3n sur ha disminuido gracias a las acciones efectivas del Estado (ver <a href=\"https:\/\/www.maapprogram.org\/2020\/mineria_ilegal\/\">MAAP#130<\/a>).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><u>A continuaci\u00f3n<\/u>, mostramos una impactante serie de<strong> im\u00e1genes satelitales de alta resoluci\u00f3n<\/strong> que ilustran algunos de los principales eventos de deforestaci\u00f3n del 2020 en la Amazon\u00eda (A-G en el Mapa Base).<\/p>\n<div class=\"fitem-sep\"><\/div>\n<h3><strong>Deforestaci\u00f3n Grave en la Amazon\u00eda Brasile\u00f1a<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Las <strong>Im\u00e1genes A-C<\/strong> muestran ejemplos de un fen\u00f3meno inquietante y com\u00fan en la Amazon\u00eda brasile\u00f1a: deforestaci\u00f3n a gran escala en la primera mitad del a\u00f1o, que despu\u00e9s es quemada en julio y agosto, causando grandes incendios por la abundante biomasa recientemente cortada. Gran parte de la deforestaci\u00f3n en estas \u00e1reas parece estar asociada con la tala de bosques para\u00a0<strong>pastos de ganado<\/strong>. Datos: Planet.<\/div><\/div>\n<div class=\"fitem-sep\"><\/div>\n<h3><strong>Incendios Forestales en la Amazon\u00eda Brasile\u00f1a<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>En septiembre, hubo \u00a0una tendencia a actuales incendios forestales en la Amazon\u00eda brasile\u00f1a (ver <a href=\"https:\/\/www.maapprogram.org\/2020\/fuegos_resumen\/\">MAAP#129<\/a>). Las <strong>im\u00e1genes D y E <\/strong>muestran ejemplos de estos considerables incendios, que quemaron m\u00e1s de 50,000 hect\u00e1reas en los estados de Par\u00e1 y Mato Grosso. Datos: ESA.<\/div><\/div>\n<div class=\"fitem-sep\"><\/div>\n<h3><strong>Incendios Forestales en la Amazon\u00eda Boliviana<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>La Amazon\u00eda boliviana tambi\u00e9n experiment\u00f3 otra temporada intensa de fuegos en el 2020. Datos: ESA<\/div><\/div>\n<div class=\"fitem-sep\"><\/div>\n<h3><strong>Arco de Deforestaci\u00f3n en la Amazon\u00eda Colombiana<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Como se describi\u00f3 en reportes previos (ver <a href=\"https:\/\/www.maapprogram.org\/2020\/colombia-2020\/\">MAAP#120<\/a>), hay un \u201carco de deforestaci\u00f3n\u201d concentrado en el noroeste de la Amazon\u00eda colombiana. Este arco impacta numerosas \u00e1reas protegidas (incluyendo parques nacionales) y reservas ind\u00edgenas. Por ejemplo, la <strong>imagen G <\/strong>muestra la reciente deforestaci\u00f3n de m\u00e1s de 500 hect\u00e1reas en el Parque Nacional Chiribiquete. Datos: ESA, Planet<\/div><\/div>\n<div class=\"fitem-sep\"><\/div>\n<h3><strong>Deforestaci\u00f3n en la Amazon\u00eda Peruana Central Peruana<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Finalmente, la <strong>Imagen H <\/strong>muestra la deforestaci\u00f3n en expansi\u00f3n (m\u00e1s de 110 hect\u00e1reas) y apertura de caminos forestales (3.6 km) en un territorio ind\u00edgena, al sur del Parque Nacional Sierra del Divisor, en la Amazon\u00eda central peruana centro (regi\u00f3n Ucayali). Datos: Planet<\/div><\/div>\n<div class=\"fitem-sep\"><\/div>\n<h3><strong>*Notas y Metodolog\u00eda<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The analysis was based on early warning forest loss alerts known as GLAD alerts (30-meter resolution) produced by the University of Maryland and also presented by Global Forest Watch. It is critical to highlight that this data represents a preliminary estimate and more definitive data will come later in the year. For example, our estimate does include some forest loss caused by natural forces. Note that this data detects and classifies burned areas as forest loss. Our estimate includes both confirmed (1,355,671 million hectares) and unconfirmed (751,533 ha) alerts.<\/p>\n<p>Our geographic range is the biogeographic boundary of the Amazon as defined by RAISG (see Base Map above). This range includes nine countries.<\/p>\n<p>We applied a filter to calculate only primary forest loss. For our estimate of\u00a0<strong>primary forest<\/strong>\u00a0loss, we intersected the forest cover loss data with the additional dataset \u201cprimary humid tropical forests\u201d as of 2001 (Turubanova et al 2018). For more details on this part of the methodology, see the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/blog.globalforestwatch.org\/data-and-research\/technical-blog:-global-forest-watch's-2018-data-update-explained\">Technical Blog<\/a>\u00a0from Global Forest Watch\u00a0(Goldman and Weisse 2019).<\/p>\n<p>To identify the deforestation hotspots, we conducted a kernel density estimate. This type of analysis calculates the magnitude per unit area of a particular phenomenon, in this case forest cover loss. We conducted this analysis using the Kernel Density tool from Spatial Analyst Tool Box of ArcGIS. We used the following parameters:<\/p>\n<p>Search Radius: 15000 layer units (meters)<br \/>\nKernel Density Function: Quartic kernel function<br \/>\nCell Size in the map: 200 x 200 meters (4 hectares)<br \/>\nEverything else was left to the default setting.<\/p>\n<p>For the Base Map, we used the following concentration percentages: Medium: 7-10%; High: 11-20%; Very High: &gt;20%.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fitem-sep\"><\/div>\n<h3><strong>Agradecimientos<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Agradecemos a E.
