Sin embargo, cuando los bosques se talan (y a menudo se queman posteriormente), el carbono almacenado se libera hacia la atm\u00f3sfera, impulsando a\u00fan m\u00e1s el cambio clim\u00e1tico global.<\/p>\n<p><strong>La Amazon\u00eda<\/strong> es el bosque tropical m\u00e1s grande del mundo, y <strong>Per\u00fa<\/strong> constituye una pieza importante al oeste de Brasil.<\/p>\n<p>Gracias a los aportes de investigadores, la Amazon\u00eda peruana es \u00fanica a tener una estimaci\u00f3n de alta resoluci\u00f3n del carbono sobre el suelo que data del 2013 (Asner et al 2014).<\/p>\n<p>En el presente reporte, analizamos estos datos de carbono en relaci\u00f3n con datos recientes de deforestaci\u00f3n (ver <strong>Mapa Base<\/strong>), buscando las tendencias principales entre <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0los a\u00f1os <\/span> 2013 y 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Nuestros <strong>hallazgos clave<\/strong> incluyen:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Estimamos la <strong>p\u00e9rdida de m\u00e1s de 100 millones de toneladas m\u00e9tricas de carbono<\/strong> (101.498.000 MgC) en la Amazon\u00eda peruana entre el 2013 y 2020, principalmente debido a la deforestaci\u00f3n por agricultura y miner\u00eda.<sup><br \/>\n<\/sup><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">k<\/span><\/li>\n<li>En cambio, estimamos que las <strong>\u00e1reas protegidas y las tierras ind\u00edgenas han salvaguardado 3.2 billones de toneladas m\u00e9tricas de carbono<\/strong> (56% y 44%, respectivamente) en la Amazon\u00eda peruana entre <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">los a\u00f1os<\/span> 2013 y 2020.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Esta p\u00e9rdida de carbono equivale a las emisiones de gases de efecto invernadero de casi 80 millones de veh\u00edculos de pasajeros conducidos durante un a\u00f1o, mientras que esta protecci\u00f3n del carbono equivale a las emisiones de gases de efecto invernadero de 2.5 billones de veh\u00edculos de pasajeros conducidos durante un a\u00f1o (EPA).<\/p>\n<div class=\"fitem-sep\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"attachment_10565\" class=\"thumbnail alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.maapprogram.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/maaproject.org-maap-148-carbon-loss-amp-protection-in-the-peruvian-amazon-BaseMap-Carb-ANP-TI-200dpi-v4.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-10565\" src=\"https:\/\/www.maapprogram.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/maaproject.org-maap-148-carbon-loss-amp-protection-in-the-peruvian-amazon-BaseMap-Carb-ANP-TI-200dpi-v4-464x580.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"351\" height=\"439\" \/><\/a><div class=\"caption\">Mapa de Referencia. Ubicaci\u00f3n de las im\u00e1genes A-E.<\/div><\/div>\n<h3><strong>Mapa de Referencia<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>A continuaci\u00f3n, presentamos una serie de im\u00e1genes con acercamiento (<em>zooms<\/em>) de varias zonas clave.<\/p>\n<p>Las <strong>Im\u00e1genes A-C<\/strong> destacan la reciente p\u00e9rdida de carbono por deforestaci\u00f3n (agricultura y miner\u00eda) en bosques h\u00famedos amaz\u00f3nicos de alta densidad de carbono.<\/p>\n<p>Mientras que, las <strong>Im\u00e1genes D-E<\/strong> muestran c\u00f3mo las \u00e1reas protegidas y tierras ind\u00edgenas est\u00e1n protegiendo enormes cantidades de carbono.<\/p>\n<p>Estas letras (A-E) corresponden al Mapa de Referencia.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fitem-sep\"><\/div>\n<h3><strong>\u00c1reas de P\u00e9rdida de Carbono<\/strong><\/h3>\n<h4><strong>A. Datos: Asner et al 2014, MINAM\/PNCB<\/div><\/div>\n<div class=\"fitem-sep\"><\/div>\n<h3><strong>Metodolog\u00eda<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Este reporte combin\u00f3 dos conjuntos de datos: 1) el carbono sobre el suelo de Asner et al 2014, y 2) la p\u00e9rdida anual de bosques, identificada por el Programa Nacional de Conservaci\u00f3n de Bosques (<a href=\"http:\/\/geobosques.minam.gob.pe\/geobosque\/view\/index.php\">Geobosques<\/a>) del Ministerio del Ambiente del Per\u00fa, <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">desde el a\u00f1o<\/span>\u00a02013 al 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Los datos de carbono sobre la superficie sirvieron de l\u00ednea de base para el 2013 y, posteriormente, extrajimos los datos de carbono de las zonas de p\u00e9rdida de bosques entre 2013 y 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Este proceso nos permiti\u00f3 obtener la densidad de carbono (por hect\u00e1rea) en relaci\u00f3n al \u00e1rea de p\u00e9rdida de bosque, y luego, estimar el total de reservas de carbono sobre el suelo, <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">es decir, las p\u00e9rdidas totales entre los a\u00f1os 2013 y 2020.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Los valores de datos de p\u00e9rdida de bosque incluyen algunos de p\u00e9rdida natural de bosque.
