Dados: Asner et al 2014, MINAM\/PNCB, SERNANP, IBC<\/div><\/div>\n<p>As florestas tropicais, especialmente a Amaz\u00f4nia, sequestram enormes quantidades de\u00a0<strong>carbono<\/strong>\u00a0, um dos principais gases de efeito estufa que causam as mudan\u00e7as clim\u00e1ticas.<\/p>\n<p>Aqui, mostramos a import\u00e2ncia das\u00a0\u00a0<strong>\u00e1reas protegidas<\/strong>\u00a0e\u00a0<strong>terras ind\u00edgenas<\/strong>\u00a0para salvaguardar esses estoques de carbono.<\/p>\n<p>No\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.maapprogram.org\/2018\/peru-carbon\/\" data-feathr-click-track=\"true\" data-feathr-link-aids=\"6182f4e07f71b7b1555341c3\">MAAP #81<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0, estimamos a perda de\u00a0<strong>59 milh\u00f5es<\/strong>\u00a0de toneladas m\u00e9tricas de carbono na Amaz\u00f4nia peruana durante os \u00faltimos cinco anos (2013-17) devido \u00e0 perda de florestas, especialmente\u00a0<strong>o desmatamento<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0por atividades de minera\u00e7\u00e3o e agr\u00edcolas.<\/p>\n<p>Esta descoberta revela que a perda florestal representa quase metade\u00a0<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>(\u00a0<strong>47%<\/strong>\u00a0) das emiss\u00f5es anuais de carbono do Peru, incluindo as provenientes da queima de combust\u00edveis f\u00f3sseis.\u00a0<sup>1,2<\/sup><\/p>\n<p>Em contraste, aqui mostramos que as \u00e1reas protegidas e as terras ind\u00edgenas salvaguardaram\u00a0<strong>3,17 mil milh\u00f5es<\/strong>\u00a0de toneladas m\u00e9tricas de carbono, at\u00e9 2017.\u00a0<sup>3,4<\/sup><\/p>\n<p>O\u00a0<strong>Mapa Base<\/strong>\u00a0(\u00e0 direita) mostra, em tons de verde, as densidades atuais de carbono em rela\u00e7\u00e3o a essas \u00e1reas.<\/p>\n<p>A reparti\u00e7\u00e3o dos resultados \u00e9:<br \/>\n<strong>1,85 bilh\u00e3o de<\/strong>\u00a0toneladas salvaguardadas\u00a0<b>\u00a0<\/b>no sistema nacional de \u00e1reas protegidas do Peru;<br \/>\n<strong>1,15 bilh\u00e3o<\/strong>\u00a0de toneladas salvaguardadas em terras de comunidades nativas tituladas; e<br \/>\n<strong>309,7\u00a0<\/strong><strong>milh\u00f5es<\/strong>\u00a0de toneladas salvaguardadas em Reservas Territoriais para povos ind\u00edgenas em isolamento volunt\u00e1rio.<\/p>\n<p>O carbono total salvaguardado (3,17 mil milh\u00f5es de toneladas m\u00e9tricas) \u00e9 o equivalente a 2,5 anos de emiss\u00f5es de carbono dos\u00a0<strong>Estados Unidos<\/strong>\u00a0.\u00a0<sup>5<\/sup><\/p>\n<p>Abaixo, mostramos v\u00e1rios exemplos de como \u00e1reas protegidas e terras ind\u00edgenas est\u00e3o salvaguardando reservat\u00f3rios de carbono em \u00e1reas importantes, indicadas pelos\u00a0<strong>encartes AE<\/strong>\u00a0.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fitem-sep\"><\/div>\n<h3><strong>A. Parque Nacional Yaguas<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>A Imagem A a seguir mostra como tr\u00eas \u00e1reas protegidas, incluindo o novo\u00a0<strong>Parque Nacional Yaguas<\/strong>\u00a0, est\u00e3o efetivamente salvaguardando 202 milh\u00f5es de toneladas m\u00e9tricas de carbono na Amaz\u00f4nia peruana do nordeste. Manu, Reserva Comunal Amarakaeri, CC Los Amigos<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>A Imagem B a seguir mostra como\u00a0<strong>Los Amigos<\/strong>\u00a0, a primeira concess\u00e3o de conserva\u00e7\u00e3o do mundo, est\u00e1 efetivamente salvaguardando 15 milh\u00f5es de toneladas m\u00e9tricas de carbono na Amaz\u00f4nia peruana do sul. Duas \u00e1reas protegidas ao redor,\u00a0<strong>o Parque Nacional Manu<\/strong>\u00a0e\u00a0<strong>a Reserva Comunal Amarakaeri<\/strong>\u00a0, salvaguardam mais 194 milh\u00f5es de toneladas m\u00e9tricas.
